You released a grunted yelp as your body roughly impacted with the grassy ground beneath you.

Wasn't grass supposed to be soft?

"_____!" Your best friend and weapon partner, (Best Friend's Name) shouted.

Tightening your grip on the middle of the bow that was your weapon partner, you sat yourself up with a groan, a stubborn smile beaming on your face through the pain, "I'm fine. It's going to take more than that to keep us down." You said weakly as you stood your trembling body up. The twinkle in your (e/c) eyes contrasting against your body's consistent shivering.

You firmly grasped the string of your weapon's body and pulled your shaking arm back till a large arrows form filled the empty space.

Your mind was not in a proper state of mind, so your and your partners soul only produced a simple large arrow, not aware of just how powerful this kishin was.

With little regard spared to the dirt that not only stained your clothes but also stang one of your eyes, you kept a tight lock on the kishin yards away from you. It looked like something of a relative to that one kishin Maka and Soul described to you once. What was it called? Jack the Ripper? That didn't matter anyway, because at the moment, it seemed preoccupied with something that you couldn't quite make out through the darkness of the night and the blurriness of your one eye opened. Despite your slightly hindered vision and your quivering body, the kishin's distracted state gave you the upper hand.

Trying to stifle your trembling body, you aimed till you were positive that the arrow would penetrate him somewhere, and with a swift release of your fingers, the arrow flew through the evening air.

Fear immediately began to trickle on your skin after shooting as you realized whatever presence it was that was clouding the kishin's focus no longer existed.

It barely gripped the arrow before the object snapped in its hold.

The kishin then spared no seconds breath before it began to charge towards you and (Best Friend's Name), its claws, bared and jagged, gleaming in the moonlight's shine.

"Shit!"

"_____!" (Best Friend's Name) screamed in panic, the two of you just barely managing to elude the kishin's path of attack.

Thus, the dancing began.

Intricate moves and evasions gracing your features as you held on to (Best Friend's Name), your mind racing and forcing a single thought to swim through your troubled train of thoughts: Survive.

"(Best Friend's Name), smoke bomb mode!" You yelled as the kishin's attacks and pace quickened.

"Got it!" (Best Friend's Name) wasted no time time to transform.

You gripped your best friend in your hand tightly before throwing her to the ground.

Just before a large cloud of smoke coated the area, you could have sworn that you saw a glimpse of bright blue running towards where you were, but as your vision blurred you felt an immense pressure pierce your stomach.

The smoke began to lift.

"___________!" parted the air like scissors racing across fabric.

Your body dropped to it's knees. The kishin's claws now dangled in front of your face, crimson dripping from the tips of it's razors.

Your mind and eyes began to fog over. Pain wasn't registering in your system. What should pain even feel like? Agonizing? Mind numbing?

"____!" A different voice, one that you recognized, called out to you as you began to buck over.

"____! Dammit, ____!" Although it was panicked, somehow, the voice was soothing as your mind began to blacken.

Your name continued it's racing across the vicinity, the sources' voices screeching through the air like coarse nails dragging across a chalkboard. This skin prickling sound settled into the background. It was as if it was all slowly fading into a monotonous, almost clock-like, drone.

Like the melody your mother was singing to you. Her sonorous voice that lulled you with it's sultry beauty. Her thin fingers coiling around your small palm as she cradled your frame on her lap.

Your dad's lips gently pressed against your forehead. He lightly caressed your cheek as he whispered wishes of a good night's slumber along with pleasant dreams, something he always did whenever he tucked you into bed at night.

His soft lips left your forehead warm, and it's warmth swirled and mixed with the moon's blood that painted your stiffening, cold face. The crescent star's crooked grin seemed to stare at you, attempting to etch fear onto your heart with its formidable gaze.

It wasn't as foreboding as the terror glazed eyes of your parents that night. When neither responded to your pathetic efforts to awake them, and when neither of their eyes moved, somehow, your little mind registered that they weren't ever going to. What had Mommy and Daddy so scared? Why weren't they waking up? Wasn't that an odd way to sleep? Laying in uncomfortable positions on the floor... And why was there so much red?

The color coated everything, even as black began to preside over it and everything around you. The image of the wretched color that drenched your parents bodies was still fresh on your mind, the questions you kept asking yourself still ringed in your ears as well. But one particular unanswered question stuck out like a sore thumb above the rest that your young and venal mind couldn't answer or fathom. Why were they burying Mommy and Daddy?

"____!"

His strong hand caressed your face and you felt a big arm worm it's way under your waist, trying to hoist you up.

"____!"

Would the screaming stop already? All you wanted to do was sleep. You wanted to sleep with your Mom and Dad...

"____! ____! ________!"

~                  ~                  ~                  ~                  ~

"____!"

"Fuck! What?" You yelled at whomever it was that awoke you from your slumber.

"Dammit. You were having that nightmare again." The perpetrator spoke with offense lacing his voice.

Your eyes widened with shock and embarrassment. You released a heavy sigh.

You had the nightmare that's been taunting you these last couple of weeks again.

And this time it was when you and your boyfriend were taking a nap on his couch.

Black*Star tightened the hold he had around your waist from behind you and buried his face in the crook of your neck, placing a few soft kisses against your skin before he settled himself.

This was his own way of trying to comfort you. A gentle, yet firm hold, and delicate kisses. The closeness was security that couldn't compare to any other.

Black*Star spoke quietly, a rare occurrence all it's own, as his warm breath tickled your neck, "Y'know, I don't exactly know how to handle stuff like this. " You halted the sigh that nearly escaped your lips. You knew he was eventually going to try and ask what it was that was troubling your sleep, yet you still didn't quite feel ready for a discussion about it.

"Cuz' normally a God doesn't need to deal with stuff like this, ya feel?"

You made a 'tch' sound as you released yourself from his hold, "Yeah. I feel." You said bitterly.

You knew Black*Star was probably trying his damnedest to try and not spoil your deteriorating mood further, but you simply weren't in shape to tolerate his self-centered tendencies.

You stood yourself up, but remained where you were, your feet planted to the ground. However, as soon as you saw Black*Star shift on the couch, you immediately shifted as well, but towards the kitchen, suddenly deciding that you wanted something warm to drink on this chilly, winter day.

As you were leaving his living room, you faintly heard a sigh escape his lips and the slightest wave of guilt began to wash over you.

You didn't mean to be so short with him, honestly. However, the nightmare was relentless in it's efforts to steal rest from your body, and each time you had it, you thought of your parents, as if you didn't think of them enough already.

Over 10 years ago, you found your parents murdered in your own home at a very young age.

Through out the years since then, just every so often, you'd have this horrifying dream of joining them in their eternal slumber, in the exact same way they entered it too. The nightmare's details have changed over the years, but in the end it was always the same in which you entered an inescapable oblivion.

The all but venial damage inflicted all those years ago was indelible. Nothing could erase the pain you endured, and every time you spent a night in that God forsaken nightmare, you felt as though you were reliving all that suffering again.

You tried hard not to slam everything in the kitchen as you prepared yourself a nice, hot, cup of hot chocolate. You could hardly help yourself. Your moods were always bitter after you had that nightmare.

You pressed your palms to the counter in front of you as you waited for you beverage to finish heating up in the microwave.

Your teeth grazed your bottom lip in a bite, trying to swallow sudden lump that surfaced in your throat. You tried to stifle the pitiful sobs that wracked your frame, raising your hand to cover a small one that managed to escape your lips.

Damn it.

You couldn't break down into tears here. You didn't want him to see you like this. Out of all the years that Black*Star's known you, you've never let him see you cry after the effects of the nightmare set in. You didn't want to put him or anyone else through it. It was tolerable when Maka and Soul saw it, and when your (Best Friend's Name) saw too, but you did not think you could bear to put your own boyfriend through such a thing. His emotions would get stirred even more severely than when he was challenged as an ultimate assassin.

It wasn't that you didn't trust him with something so personal. Definitely not. You just thought that he shouldn't have to see that. No one should have to see the pain that your body still harbored.

And the frightful image of him in your dream...

~            ~            ~            ~            ~            ~

Black*Star only cursed inwardly at himself as he watched ____ storm off into his kitchen. He exhaled a heavy sigh.

'Of course. Leave it to me to fuck things up further.'

He listened as he heard ____ rummaging loudly through his kitchen.

"Heh." He chuckled quietly to himself.

'Just like after we met all those years back. I did nothing but screw up back then, despite that, I know now that it was only cuz' of how I felt...-'

Black*Star's attention snapped towards his kitchen when he heard a small, fragile sound. 'Is she...?'

He walked to the doorway of his kitchen and paused when he saw his girlfriend leaning over the counter, her hand covering her mouth, her body shaking.

She was crying.

Black*Star's body nearly shook with anger. How can he hope to be the man to surpass God if he can't even keep his girl from crying? He's supposed to be her big man, her star.

Dammit.

He fisted his hands at his sides, loathing his self-depreciating thoughts.

There was no need for this. He was going to surpass God, he is the biggest man there is, the greatest assassin, the biggest star, the almighty Black*Star, and he was going to give all of his power into seeing ____ smile right now.

That was something Black*Star never really knew that he had. That uncanny, and impeccable will of determination. After all, when has he ever given up? When has he ever forsaken the idea of winning and surpassing? Never once, and somehow, though it would seem impossible, his determination grew stronger towards ____.

He quietly walked up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist, resting his head on her shoulder. A mild wave of discomfort hit him when she didn't react to his sudden touch.

Ugh. All this gloom and shit was not his type of cake. Being loud and pretty much cool as fuck was his cup of tea. How was he not gonna fuck this up?

He couldn't help the flood of hope that broke through him when he felt ____ relax in his hold, her hands resting over his arms.

"Thank you."

Black*Star was taken aback by this. She's showing gratitude? After his stupid and selfish comment?

"I haven't even told you once about that dream yet each time, you're there when it happens you comfort me in that way that no one else can. You just.. hold me and my troubles dissipate for a while."

He could just hear the smile in her voice. Tch. It was the only way he really knew how. He almost found it stupid that she was grateful for that.

Almost.

She turned in his embrace to face him, and she looped her arms around his neck, gazing sorrowfully into his emerald orbs with her redden (e/c) eyes.

"I'm sorry for getting mad earlier."

"No, no.. it's, erm.. my fault. I'm s-sorry." Ugh. Black*Star also wasn't one for apologies, yet in this case. He would make an exception.

____ poked his mouth with her fingers. "How about we just call it a truce?" She offered with a tilt of her head and a smile on her lips.

That.. that was the smile he wanted to see in that moment, and in that moment she had the cutest smile. He couldn't help but to smile back to her and he couldn't stop himself as cupped her face in his hands and stole a sweet and chaste kiss from her pretty little lips.

"I love you, my big star." ____ said warmly.

"I love you too, my little star." Black*Star replied with the same warm smile.

As he stole more and more kisses from his little star, he relished in the warmth that swirled in his heart.

Another victory for the Big Man.
