Your cheeks flared a soft red hue as you stopped walking to glare at your ridiculous best friend on the ground, "It can happen to anyone! It was a simple mistake!" you defended in reference to a minor accident of your childhood. His bickering paused as he argued back.
"Yeah, but accidentally stepping on a rake, having it's pole hit you in the face, AND stumbling backwards into a big puddle of mud? At your own birthday party?! That's like something out of a cartoon! It's hilarious!" and his laughing ensued yet again. The red hues on your cheeks were now at a medium level.
"Shut up! What about your most embarrassing moment ever?" you huffed. Surely someone as showy and self-centered as Black*Star must have an embarrassing story. He stood himself up and scoffed.
"Oh come on, ____. A big star like me has only the greatest tales to tell. Nothing humiliating like that. Hahaha!"
Most people found Black*Star's "big star" act to be irritating and old news, but your penchant for him that's grown over the months perceived it as endearing and comforting. His enthusiasm always warmed your heart and etched a smile onto your face.
"You remember how The Ultimate Black*Star came to your rescue that one time, right?"
And now your cheeks color was at a high level.
How could you forget? You only relive it in your head throughout the entirety of everyday since it happened one month ago. It was no big deal at all.
Black*Star threw his hands behind his head as you two continued your stroll from the Academy, and he pressed on with his signature grin plastered on his face, "One of my greatest acts yet, to be honest."
"How so?" you asked him, genuinely curious and slightly confused as to how that was.
"Because I got to save you of course." he responded with a smaller smile as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
Your cheeks had finally cooled but came back with a vengeance when he spoke those words. You stubbornly sputtered your words, "Wh-whatever. I didn't need help anyways!" you both knew that was a lie, but you couldn't help how independent you generally were. It's been that way since you were orphaned. Just like Black*Star...
"Who are you kidding, ____? Your weapon partner was down and you had lost so much blood. Sure you've got a lot of talent and power, but you're not as big as a star as I am. I handled that bastard easily."
"I didn't need your help..." you mumbled as you approached your apartment complex.
Black*Star dropped his arms from behind his head, "Y'know, you don't always have to be so stubborn. Whenever you get that way you steal all the attention from me which is totally lame."
"As if you need help with attention." you jibed, adding fuel to his flaming ego.
"Yeah, you're right. I'm already the biggest hero there is. It would be pretty hard to steal all my attention." he boasted yet again.
'Yeah. My hero.' you thought to yourself, though your own ego, small compared to Black*Star's, wouldn't let you admit that aloud to him.
The two of you trekked up the stairs to your apartment. When you reached your door, you unlocked it and entered, tossing your keys into a small glass bowl on the end table to your left. You watched as Black*Star charged right in and plopped himself on the couch, making himself at home. He stood himself up momentarily as he got your TV ready to play some games, turning it on and putting it on the right setting, then popping in his and your favorite combat game into the game console.
"Come on, ____! I'm ready to kick your ass!"
He always spoke so confidently about games, then again, that was his approach to everything, and then again, he mostly yelled about it and everything else.
"You do realize you're the one who's getting their ass kicked, right?" you said as you dropped your bag on your dinner table and went into your kitchen to grab drinks and snacks.
"Just hurry uuuuuuuuuup!" Black*Star yelled. Someone's being impatient.
"I'm coming, you idiot." you walked out of the kitchen, arms filled with snacks and two sodas. The proper sustenance for gaming sessions with your best friend.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
You belted a hearty laugh at Black*Star's shenanigans.
He was throwing a fit on your couch after losing many times to you and it was certainly an interesting sight to see.
"You're such a baby, Black*Star." you giggled.
He punched your right side and you winced. His face immediately went from a pout to light concern. He obviously forgot that that's where your wound was from the battle a month ago. The deep gash that you received that stretched from your back to the outer part of your stomach. It hurt like a really bad bruise, despite it's quick healing. Even the laughing that you just did made it hurt.
"Fuck! I forgot about your cut, _____! Sorry!" Black*Star apologized hastily, his hands put out in front of him as if he were about to comfort you.
"It's okay. You didn't mean to." you said honestly. You looked to him, lightly clutching your side. His face softened, curiosity trickled across his features and he looked to you.
"Hey, ____." you really enjoyed hearing him say your name, "How come you never asked for help that day?" your heart nearly stopped. His voice and tone was laced with genuine curiosity, and he sounded like he normally did, yet it still startled you, "Even as that kishin gashed your side and sent you flying, you still tried to stand up and fight. Are you really that stupid?"
Of course. Insults like that sure flowed out of his big mouth easily.
"No, as a matter of fact, being top 10 in the class kinda proves that I'm far from stupid."
"Yeah, but you know you can lean on me right?"
"Wh-what..?" you barely breathed out your response. Black*Star flashed his trademark grin and chuckled a bit.
You leaned towards him and planted a soft kiss on his cheek. You're not sure why you did it, and you weren't sure why your cheeks weren't flushed with heat, but you felt... good about your small action. Black*Star immediately held his cheek which had begun to redden brightly. "H-hey."
It was your turn to blush.
You stared at your best friend for several seconds before Black*Star took his hand from his cheek, cupped your own, and leaned in to hold your lips with his own. His thin and surprisingly soft lips tasted like the chocolate bar he had eaten earlier. You were shocked by this action. Black*Star wasn't exactly known for being affectionate. He pulled away from the kiss, much to your dismay, and stared at your (e/c) irises with his own emerald pools. He grinned, brushing your cheek with his thumb, "So what's it like being kissed by the biggest star ever?"
You smiled confidently, grabbing fistfuls of his loose tank top and pulling him closer to you again, making your lips meet once more.
"I don't know, why don't you tell me?"
Black*Star grinned again before stealing more sweet kisses from you.
